Trip

Well, we are back from our trip to Sun River, Oregon. Sun River is about 15 miles south of Bend, and it gave me, Steph and the kids the chance to see a part of the world that we had not seen yet. Bend is exploding as a city, and quite frankly I can see why. The setting is beautiful, and I'm sure that (at least, a few years ago), real estate was probably pretty reasonable.

Anyway, we stayed at the Sun River resort and enjoyed days of biking, playgrounding (not a word, I know), exploring, and relaxing. We stayed in a family member's home and were able to attend the wedding of my cousin. I wish we could have spent more time in Bend, as it seemed like a little town with a whole lot to offer, but the realities of this trip (and the fact that the kids aren't exactly as interested in urban stuff as their parents), kept our time in town to a minimum. More than anything, it gave us a chance to connect with some extended family that we have not been able to see much, living so far away. This was the first time my dad's fam has been totally represented in one place since Christmas '04, I think. For the Bascom family, that's actually a long time. On the way home, we enjoyed some incredible scenery driving through the Columbia River Gorge. All in all, it was a very busy but satisfying time. Here are some assorted photos of family:

Comments:
You DO know that we lived in Bend for 4 years, right? And if you drove the Gorge, then you were within about 2 miles of our current house. I'll pretend to forgive you for not stopping in. I don't have to pretend, however, to dig your dad's hat. That's one sweet hat. Also, did you know that that was Mirror Pond behind you in that photo (not really a pond, just a wide, slow part of the Deschutes)? Yes, the very Mirror Pond from which the delicious Deschutes Brewery beer gets its name. Glad you enjoyed sunny Central Oregon.

Oh...we know all too well of your whereabouts. Unfortunately, we left Bend at 6:45 AM Tuesday to catch a 4PM flight out of Seattle, so we had very little time to do anything but get to the airport. We certainly thought of you, and wished we could have seen you. If we are ever there and the circumstances are different, we would love to see you. Oh, and my dad's hat is legendary. And oh, I enjoyed some products of the Deschutes Brewery for the first time on this trip. It is nectar indeed.
